•    SIMA/WATERMANS BALL

I was pretty excited when I was asked to submit artwork again this year for the annual watermans ball artshow and in addition, art for the calendar. needless to say I was pretty ecstatic when I saw I got the cover shot and another photo for march.

it’s an honor to be a part of such an event and it’s nice to know my photos were well received.

    THANK YOU SIMA!

  •    Cote des Basques

With the recent passing of Bastille Day, it makes me sad to think I wasn’t in France this year to celebrate with friends.

I can’t help but think about little cottages in the Basque country side and a short scooter run/walk down to Biarritz.  I love Paris, it’s history, the galleries and the architecture, but I’m not a city kid. Give me cleaner air, open fields, surf and some friends, and I. AM. THERE!

damn… now I’m craving a proper espresso and crepe.

  •    japan from afar…

This upcoming weekend  is the greenroom festival in Yokohama, Japan. It’s an event my friend helped start, a mirror to “the happening”. The event is based on surf culture through art, film and music. I had originally hoped I’d be there (art in tow) but with the overwhelming number of artists already lined up to get in, space was limited.

We had thoughts of going over anyway, to see friends, explore foreign lands, take photos of fish markets, cherry blossoms and temples.. but with still being somewhat freshly back from Australia, we thought we’d save some money and try and go big next year (and hopefully be showing as well)

my last trip to Japan was amazing and I thought I’d pull out a polaroid or two to share.

  •    PETTY

A Saturday night, sitting on the couch with a little Tom Petty “Wildflowers” and the thoughts of hitting the open road. lunches packed, film loaded and no itinerary. It would be my normal sunday.. but surf, a project or two in the works, and I think the roadtrip isn’t such an option. So next weekend we’ll see what the adventure may be?

This was on a fun trip little up towards Landcaster, or before a couple dead ends and getting chased down by a long-horned steer. But in the end, some of our little delays and detours end up being the funnest part of the trip.

  •    A month? ….seriously?

WOW! has it really been that long?

Time just seems to have flown by. The last I remember was writing about the RRR show (which had a massive turnout). I ended up getting quite a few pieces in the show and even sold a few.

The day of the RRR event I was asked if I wanted to go back to Australia to help with “the happening”. Of course I said yes, this is an event I’ve been working on for 8 years. I’m not going to start missing it now! AND this year with an added bonus, I got to submit artwork! YEAH!

Sooo.. off I headed, “down under”, for a few weeks of art slavery, amazing music, warm south of the equator surf and some of the friendliest people on earth.

First stop Bondi Beach (Sydney) from there up to Brisbane and then from there to Melbourne. I sold a few prints here and there, until the last show in Melbourne where I sold 2 originals and 2 more prints.

Of course you can’t travel half way around the world and then come back without playing a little more! so, along with my partner in crime, an over-priced rental car and some of the most expensive food and housing we could find (or maybe it was the only thing left) we repacked our bags loaded our cameras and off we went down the Great Ocean Road.

We held koalas, frolicked with kangaroos, surfed crystal blue waters of white sandy beaches and got chased out of our room by a 7″ huntsman spider! (and that was just in one day.)

I have a ton of film being developed, but until then…

  •    desert roads

half the adventure of traveling these roads, is finding your way back to where you started.

the roads less traveled always seem to have the greatest reward at the end of them. (to me anyways)
